The story of July begins with Quintilis, the original name of the month before it was renamed in honor of the late Roman general, Julius Caesar. Centuries later, another Julius—Pope Julius II—helped shape the visual language of Christianity through the art and imagery commissioned during the Renaissance, influencing how many came to imagine sacred figures for generations.
